Breast reduction

Brustverkleinerung

Breasts that are too large are usually inherited and in many cases lead to discomfort in the cervical and thoracic spine, interfere with sporting activities and hinder everyday life. In addition, a misshapen or simply too large breast can be aesthetically displeasing and impair the natural femininity.

Breast reduction (mammoplasty)

Duration of the OP
2 - 2 1/2 hours
Aftercare
Inpatient surgery (1 overnight stay), rest for 3-4 days, suture removal is largely unnecessary as the suture material is self-dissolving
Sociability
(e.g. invitation to dinner): approx. 3-4 days
Sport
approx. 3-4 weeks
Pain
low to medium

For many reasons, the desire for breast reduction (which we also refer to as mammary reduction or breast reduction) is only too understandable. We want to help our patients to reduce the size of their breasts and optimise their shape at the same time. Shaping the female breast is always part of a surgical strategy and enables our patients to get closer to their dream breast shape in the same operation.
Just as with breast augmentation, the aim of breast reduction or breast lift is to achieve a natural-looking result that suits the body. The ability to breastfeed, the feeling of skin and nipples and, above all, a natural shape are the aims of the operation.
An interesting and largely unknown side effect of breast reduction: as this procedure primarily reduces breast tissue, the incidence of breast cancer is also reduced after this operation.

The first and most important step is to examine your breasts and explain the surgical options. We take a lot of time for this in a detailed consultation at the Rosengarten practice clinic and explain all aspects of the operation, the steps of the treatment and the expected result to you in detail.

For further information, please see the bottom of the page. This is where the advantages and disadvantages of the procedures are presented and the risks and side effects are explained. However, this cannot replace a personal consultation (also via video), in which these aspects are explained and adapted individually. We therefore look forward to a personal consultation with you!

Who is it for?

Breast reduction surgery can basically be performed on any breast. Women with very large breasts not only benefit aesthetically from the operation, but also functionally: women with very large breasts also benefit from such an operation in terms of mobility, sporting ability and physical activity. However, smaller breasts (e.g. 75C) can also be reduced and tightened, as women with smaller breasts can also suffer from volume, for example if the tissue hangs and the nipple "points downwards". We can also help here and use a mixed technique between lifting and reduction to adjust the breast size and optimise the breast shape.

Details

Once the surgical technique has been jointly defined, a marking is made on the day of the operation in a standing position. This is important in order to be able to carry out the planning perfectly, as the breast has a different shape when lying down than when standing up. The anaesthetist from our team will then accompany you into the operating theatre and induce the anaesthetic. After the operation, which takes about 2-3 hours, you will find a very fine drainage tube on the right and left side, which drains the wound fluid from the body. These are removed directly the following day. A special bandage and then later a bra, which you will also receive from us, will support the result.

After Treatment

You can be collected the morning after the operation. Although it is possible to drive yourself, it is of course nice if you ask your partner, husband or a friend to pick you up. Follow-up checks take place after 1, 2, 6 and 12 weeks. The bra should be worn day and night for 6 weeks and then again at night for 6 weeks. The scars should be cared for from the 14th day after the operation, e.g. with www.scarcare.de, which you will receive as part of the follow-up check at the clinic.

Results & risks

Although more extensive reductions aim to ensure that both breasts are symmetrical after the operation, some patients still experience slight differences between the right and left breast. This is acceptable to a certain extent, but can be corrected with minor corrective surgery. Depending on the scarring of each individual patient, it may also be necessary to perform a scar correction. However, these minor procedures can usually be performed under local anaesthetic and should be scheduled no sooner than three months after the operation. The general risks of such an operation are manageable. We will present you with plenty of images in a personal consultation and explain the advantages and disadvantages and, of course, the risks of breast lift and breast reduction.
