Chin implants

Kinnimplantate

The face is largely defined by its external shape. A flat, broad or overly pointed chin can have a negative impact on the shape of the face and a recessed chin (also known as a receding chin) has a negative effect on the profile of the face. Various treatment techniques can be used to adjust the shape of the chin and improve the region of the chin and lower jaw (jawline).

Certain points on the face define its shape: the zygomatic arches as well as the lower jawline and also the chin make a decisive contribution to the shape of the face.

An underdeveloped chin is also known as a receding chin. Such a feature is particularly noticeable in profile, i.e. when viewed from the side. The solution is relatively simple, as a wide range of modern implants are available to correct the chin.

A distinction is made between implants that are simply placed in a suitable pocket above the lower jaw bone and those that are fixed to the bone using small screws. Both implants have advantages and disadvantages. Access can be under the chin or through the mouth. We can only decide which technique is best in a particular case in consultation with you as the patient.

For further information, please see the bottom of the page. This is where the advantages and disadvantages of the procedures are presented and the risks and side effects are explained. However, this cannot replace a personal consultation (also via video), in which these aspects are explained and adapted individually. We therefore look forward to a personal consultation with you!

Who is it for?

Chin augmentation with implants is suitable for all patients who lack volume in the chin or who suffer from a receding or too narrow and pointed chin.

Details

The first step is to analyse the initial situation. What is the shape of the chin, how does it fit into the remaining dimensions of the face and what changes in shape could represent the best overall improvement. After this computer-aided analysis, we measure the implants in question and discuss the exact procedure with you as the patient. As a rule, the operation is recommended to be performed under a short anaesthetic so that you experience the procedure pain-free. A chin augmentation with implants takes around 60-90 minutes and can be performed as an outpatient operation, which means that you can go home after the procedure.

After Treatment

You should have a few days off after the operation, as the area may swell slightly and slight bruising may form on the neck. These can be well concealed with a scarf or bandana. Nevertheless, we advise you to take a few days off work. The stitches are self-dissolving and a follow-up check is only carried out to check the wound and the results we have achieved together.

Results & risks

As with any operation with implants, a little patience is also required for chin augmentation, as the swelling after the operation lasts a few weeks and the results may take some time to appear. There is no need to worry, because all you need is a little patience. It is important to start with good scar care in good time when using the crease under the chin to allow the scar to heal as invisibly as possible.
