Stubborn fat deposits can be permanently removed with liposuction! By using modern liposuction methods such as vibratory liposuction or water-jet assisted liposuction (WAL liposuction, BodyJet), this fat can be removed gently and without damaging the tissue.

One problem that liposuction does not solve, however, is excess skin. It is not uncommon for excess skin to appear after liposuction. The skin envelope remains after liposuction while the underlying fatty tissue is removed. However, human skin is a very dynamic organ and excess skin can easily disappear over the weeks and months. If you think of a pregnant belly, for example, or the skin after a significant reduction in body weight, then you know that the skin can at least partially regress. Liposuction is more or less a “crash diet” that massively reduces the amount of fat on the abdomen, for example, in just a few minutes. Today, we can not only support the regression of the skin with modern surgical procedures, but also actively influence the contouring of the body surface.

A new technology can now help to tighten the “empty” skin as part of liposuction during the same operation and thus significantly improve the body contour: This technology is called High Definition Liposuction (HDL).

With the help of a special inert gas that flows through the tip of a probe and is ignited with a plasma jet, connective tissue fibers can be tightened and the skin sculpted.

High definition liposuction (HDL) can also help to improve the shape of the body in cases of sagging skin without prior liposuction.

The “skin tightening without incision”, as HDL is often called, is therefore also of interest to many young and slim patients who want to shape their body. For example, a six-pack can be sculpted, the waist emphasized or the male chest shaped. Compared to liposuction, high definition liposuction is therefore more of a form modeling or “body contouring” procedure, i.e. it actively works on the shape of the body.

For further information, please see the bottom of the page. This is where the advantages and disadvantages of the procedures are presented and the risks and side effects are explained. However, this cannot replace a personal consultation (also via video), in which these aspects are explained and adapted individually. We therefore look forward to a personal consultation with you!

Who is it for?
High Definition Liposuction is particularly suitable for patients who want to sculpt their body intensively. A visible six-pack, an athletically shaped waist or even a pronounced pectoral muscle: all these wishes can be fulfilled with HDL treatment. If necessary, unwanted fat deposits can of course also be removed by liposuction and the skin in the affected area can be tightened at the same time. With all modern liposuction procedures, additional tightening of the body surface should be considered as an option. In many cases, the result of liposuction can be significantly improved. It is also possible to sculpt a contour in slim patients and we can, for example, work out the beginnings of six-pack muscles.
Details
For the patient, the procedure is similar to a “normal” liposuction. The first step is to gently remove the excess fatty tissue from the abdomen, hips, back, thighs, upper arms or chest. This is done in our clinic, usually with water-jet-assisted suction, i.e. with the WAL-BodyJet. The high-definition device (HDL) is then inserted through the same portals (small opening through which suction is also performed) and the skin is gradually tightened and contoured. Due to the significant skin tightening that can be achieved with HDL (High Definition Liposuction), the operation must be performed under a short anesthetic. Local anesthesia is not possible. However, an overnight stay in the clinic is not necessary, so the procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis.
After the treatment
Showering & compression treatment after liposuction:

You can usually shower about 2-3 days after the operation, as the wounds are sealed with Steri-Strips. Bathing (including whirlpools and pools) is not possible until 8 weeks at the earliest - because that is how long you will have to wear the compression garments. You do not need to change the plasters, but should remain in our clinic until the follow-up check.

You should wear the compression garments that we put on you during the operation day and night for 6 weeks. Of course you can take them off to wash them (gentle program in the washing machine or hand wash) and dry them, but you should remain calm and not do any excessive activity and put the compression garments back on immediately after about an hour.

A special feature of High Definition Lipo: after the operation we use special adhesive bandages and foam parts that help to achieve the desired result. We will explain the exact procedure to you during your inpatient stay.

Behavior after the operation:

In principle, the suctioned areas can swell and become discolored due to bruising. Adjacent areas, such as the intimate area after suction in the abdomen, can also swell even though it has not been treated. Swelling of the operated areas and the adjacent areas is completely normal. In principle, it is advisable to plan a certain rest period after the operation.

Lymphatic drainage by a physiotherapist on site can be useful to help speed up the swelling and stabilize the result.

You should generally pause sporting activities for 3-4 weeks, after which you can start with a light workout (e.g. stomach/legs/bottom) or do light ergometer training. 3 months after the operation, you can move around freely and take part in sporting activities.

Suture material used and thread removal:

The threads will be removed during the follow-up check. We will change the shower plasters once during the first follow-up check (after 1 week).

Visibility of results:

Naturally, in the days following an operation, you will be increasingly concerned with your own body image and try to estimate the final results of the operation. At this point, it should be pointed out again that results develop over a period of around 3-6 months and patience plays a crucial role here. Lymphatic swelling and internal wound healing play a major role, especially in operations such as body-shaping procedures. We would therefore like to ask you not to interpret the early results, especially in the first twelve weeks, too much into the final result.

Scar optimization:

In the case of many operations, cutting techniques are used that lead to a permanent scar. In the case of liposuction, these scars are very small and inconspicuous. The appearance of this scar can be significantly improved, especially in the first few weeks, by you as a patient in cooperation with us.

We recommend the following scheme: in the first few weeks after the operation (approx. 14-21 days), the wounds are covered with so-called Steri-Strips and shower plasters. Please leave these plasters in place for at least 14 days. We usually remove the plasters as part of our follow-up check. After 21 days, active scar care can then begin. Information on scar care can be found, for example, on the website www.scarcare.de. On this website you can also order products that can optimize your scar appearance. Please start thinking about scar care early on and, if desired, order the products before the operation in order to be prepared for scar care.

Results & Risks
As with many aesthetic operations, the results are only fully visible after around 3 months. In the first few weeks after high definition liposuction, swelling and lymphoedema lead to an unsatisfactory result and patients need a little patience until the result emerges. The risks are largely identical to those of normal liposuction, i.e. rather low.
