Lip augmentation & bullhorn lift

"The lips are the gateway to a woman's soul" is a Chinese proverb. And here, too, hardly any other shape is as closely associated with sensuality as the female lips. It is therefore hardly surprising that lip augmentation is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic surgery procedures.
But what actually makes sensual lips? How can the volume and shape of the lips be changed? We have the answers!
Lip augmentation & bullhorn lift
Duration of the OP | Approximately 60 minutes, local anaesthetic to short general anaesthetic - depending on the treatment |
Aftercare | Outpatient procedures, cooling and rest for the day of treatment |
Sociability | e.g. (invitation to dinner): After approx. 5-7 days |
Sport | Following day |
Pain | low |
It is more the interaction of all the components of the lip that lead to a perfect lip shape:
- the volume
- the proportion between the upper and lower lip
- the curve of the upper
- the kissing mouth (shape of the so-called philtrum)
Lip augmentation has also long since made it into the media. However, its image in the glossy press is unfortunately characterised by far too exaggerated lip augmentations. At Praxisklinik am Rosengarten, however, we emphasise the importance of shapely lip augmentation or lip shaping. This is the only way to create a sensual overall appearance.
WHAT IS LIP AUGMENTATION SURGERY?
It is important to understand that the enlargement and shaping of the lips is the decisive factor. This is because the shape of the lips and the neighbouring areas of the upper lip, nose and teeth also contribute to a sensual kissable mouth and individual facial expressions.
A new trend from the USA picks up on this important realisation. Smile Design focuses on all aspects of a captivating smile:
- Lip volume
- lip proportions
- skin texture of the upper and lower lip
- the whiteness of the visible teeth
- tooth position
- corners of the mouth
The lips do not always have to be enlarged by surgery. Many things can be done without a scalpel. On this page, we give you an overview of the options for lip augmentation and lip shaping.
WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS FOR NATURAL LIP AUGMENTATION?
By natural lip augmentation, we mean methods that enlarge the lips without surgery. This includes, for example, injecting the lips with hyaluronic acid. In addition, the lips can also be enlarged using autologous fat. We are one of the very few clinics to offer permanent lip augmentation with Permalip® implants and the "dermal stripe" procedure developed by us. Surgical reshaping (bullhorn lip lift, corner of the mouth lift and others) can also contribute to a perfect result.
PERMANENT LIP AUGMENTATION WITH AUTOLOGOUS FAT
If you are looking for a natural technique to permanently enlarge your lips, then lip augmentation with autologous fat is the right choice. Fat transfer has been known since the 1990s, but it is only in the last 10 years that the technique has been developed so effectively that it represents a real alternative to other treatments.
In permanent lip augmentation with autologous fat, a small amount of fat is liposuctioned from an area of the body (e.g. abdomen or flanks). This living fat is then injected into the lips. The fat grows in the lips and fills out the lip volume. The advantage of this method is that it uses the body's own tissue instead of foreign bodies. This means that there is no risk of irritation.
The benefits of lip augmentation using autologous fat also have a positive effect on neighbouring areas of the face:
- Complementary wrinkle injections: Wrinkles in the mouth region (so-called perioral wrinkles) can be treated in the same treatment and thus smoothed out.
- Getting rid of stubborn fat deposits: Many women also decide to have annoying fat deposits, for example on the stomach, directly suctioned out comprehensively. Some of the fat is then used for lip augmentation or wrinkle injections.
Lip augmentation with autologous fat can therefore solve several problems in one treatment.
For further information, please see the bottom of the page. This is where the advantages and disadvantages of the procedures are presented and the risks and side effects are explained. However, this cannot replace a personal consultation (also via video), in which these aspects are explained and adapted individually. We therefore look forward to a personal consultation with you!
WHAT LIP AUGMENTATION SURGERIES ARE AVAILABLE?
In addition to natural lip augmentation, such as with autologous fat, there are also permanent, surgical lip augmentation options. These include lip augmentation with Permalip® implants and lip enhancement and augmentation using dermal strips. As the implant has no longer been exported to Europe in recent months, we have switched to alternative techniques to achieve permanent lip augmentation.
BULLHORN LIP SURGERY: SURGICAL RED LIP AUGMENTATION
Many people resort to hyaluronic acid for a narrow red lip on the upper lip. This is also an option in many cases. However, it can also happen that lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid does not achieve the desired result. This is usually due to the fact that although the volume-creating hyaluronic acid enlarges the red of the lips, a large part of it points downwards or inwards. The enlarged red of the lips is therefore not in the visible area: the desired result is not achieved.
The red of the lips on the inside must then be turned or pulled "outwards". This is achieved with a bullhorn excision or lip enhancement. In some cases, the so-called "lip flip" can also be an addition.
- In bullhorn lip surgery, skin is removed via a fine incision on the nose and the distance between the nostril and upper lip is shortened. The lip is pulled outwards, revealing more of its red body. This operation can also be combined with lip augmentation using autologous fat or hyaluronic acid, but also with a Permalip® implant or the "dermal stripe".
- In lip enhancement, the lip is also developed outwards, but the incision is made directly on the red edge of the lip. The scar is therefore in the visible area and not hidden on the nose. However, the advantage of this technique is that the lip can be augmented along its entire length and not just in the central third, as is the case with bullhorn lip surgery.
Which technique is the best solution for you can be discussed by sending us a photo and, of course, in a personal consultation. We will show you pictures of all surgical techniques and discuss the advantages and disadvantages with you. You can then decide which lip augmentation you are more comfortable with.
PERMANENT LIP AUGMENTATION WITH DERMAL STRIP / TEMPORALIS FASCIA
Another option for permanent lip augmentation without using an implant (in contrast to Permalip® implants) is the use of temporalis fascia. This muscle fascia at the temple can be used as the body's own filler in the lip. There it provides the required lip volume.
This requires an incision within the hairy scalp. The approximately 3 cm long incision is therefore not visible due to its placement. The small incision removes a strip of fascia that is not required by the body. This strip of fascia is then used to give the lip a natural volume. There are also no scars on the lip as the incisions are made from the inside of the lip: A very elegant solution for completely natural results.
PERMANENT LIP AUGMENTATION WITH PERMALIP® IMPLANTS
Our clinic is one of the very few places in Europe where you have such a surgical option. Permalip implants are the finest silicone implants that are inserted into the red of the lips to achieve permanent lip augmentation. No visible scars are required to achieve the result of permanent and significant lip augmentation. The implants are solid and safe and promise a defined augmentation of the upper and lower lip. You can choose between 3, 4 and 5 mm thick implants. The procedure can be carried out under local anaesthetic or under short anaesthesia (twilight sleep).
Unfortunately, the implants have not been sold in Europe for some months now. We have therefore switched to other techniques so that we can continue to offer you permanent lip augmentation.
LIP AUGMENTATION AS COMBINED LIP SURGERY
Although the lip augmentations presented are successful individually, the final result can often be perfected by combining them. Basically, the lips and the surrounding skin must be considered as an aesthetic unit. Therefore, a combination of lip augmentation and treatment of perioral wrinkles is often recommended. The latter appear at the edge of the upper lip and sometimes also the lower lip. These marionette wrinkles can be corrected with hyaluronic acid injections, fruit acid and TCA peels and even thread lifting. The corners of the mouth also ensure a friendly smile. If these hang down, the facial expression quickly appears grumpy or depressed.
