Mommy Makeover

Mommy Makeover

Pregnancy and childbirth change the female body. However, many women want to feel comfortable in their body even after pregnancy. The term Mommi Makeover has therefore been coined to describe a surgical technique that aims to give women self-confidence again after the changes to their body caused by pregnancy.

Mommy Makeover: Tightening after pregnancy

When deciding to have a child, the physical change in the pregnant woman often plays no role at first. The excitement is great, a nursery has to be furnished and many life changes are on the horizon. However, due to the weight gain and stretching of the tissue, many women struggle with numerous complaints after giving birth. These include

  • stretch marks
  • sagging skin on the stomach
  • rectus diastasis (abdominal muscle weakness)
  • sagging breasts
  • unsightly caesarean section scar
  • Fat deposits in the pubic area

As these problems are identical for many young mothers, the term ‘mommy makeover’ has become established, especially in the American-speaking world. This refers to one or more operations to improve the body after pregnancy. Of course, one could argue that sufficient exercise and diet can help to restore the body image. But even here there are limits, because once tissue has torn and the skin is sagging, this can no longer be corrected without surgery.

Young mothers should of course wait a few months after the birth to see to what extent the body is able to recover. Acting too early or going to a plastic surgeon is rather rash. But after around 6-12 months, even the last mum will know where the body's weak points are and where the body is perhaps unable to cope with the consequences of pregnancy.

For further information, please see the bottom of the page. This is where the advantages and disadvantages of the procedures are presented and the risks and side effects are explained. However, this cannot replace a personal consultation (also via video), in which these aspects are explained and adapted individually. We therefore look forward to a personal consultation with you!

Who is it for?

The Mummy Makeover is suitable for all new mums who suffer from the following symptoms due to their pregnancy and the associated weight fluctuations: Sagging of the skin on the abdomen, Sagging of the abdominal muscles, accumulation of fat deposits on the body, Sagging or drooping of the breasts, Sagging of the upper arms Sagging of the thighs Such an operation must be perfectly planned by the surgeon. In very few cases is there only one surgical request; women usually have two or three areas that need to be corrected in one or more operations. In any case, a good consultation and assessment of the initial condition is important in order to be able to plan the operation.

Details

In an initial detailed consultation, the changes to the body that need to be reversed are analysed. The abdomen and breasts are often affected, less frequently the upper arms or thighs. In many cases, however, fat deposits have also formed that have not been sufficiently reduced after the birth. This initial analysis serves to assess the situation and we use it to develop a treatment plan that shows you the structured procedure and calculates the exact costs. As a young family, you have to watch your money and therefore full cost transparency makes sense. In many cases, we start with the abdomen and breast. These two areas can sometimes be combined in one operation. In the case of the breasts, there are breast lifts, augmentations or a combination of both (breast lift with implant). Liposuction is usually necessary on the abdomen, which is combined directly with a tightening of the abdominal wall. Which technique is right for you must be determined individually during the consultation. On this homepage you will find many details on the individual steps in the chapters on tummy tuck, breast lift, breast augmentation, thigh lift and upper arm lift. Find out more here.

After the treatment

How long you should or must recover after a mummy makeover depends on which operations are combined. Different rules naturally apply to a tummy tuck than, for example, when combining a tummy tuck with a breast lift. In this case, we will give you our individual recommendation for the rest phase after the operation during your consultation. Most mummy makeover operations involve an overnight stay in our private clinic. In many cases, scar care is also advisable to optimise the appearance of the scars. In all cases, it is necessary to wear compression garments for at least six weeks. However, special aftercare is also dependent on the type of operation.

Results & Risks

The results are a long time coming: It is not uncommon for patients to have to wait 3-6 months before a final result can be assessed. The recovery period can be longer, especially in the case of combined procedures. Lymphatic drainage and scar care can be important to support faster recovery and invisible scar healing. Particularly in the case of combination procedures such as a tummy tuck in conjunction with a breast lift, it is often necessary to correct various parts of the scar after six months, as the highly taut scars can widen somewhat and should be corrected. Minor corrections may also be necessary after liposuction if this has been combined with the procedure.
