Thigh lift

Oberschenkelstraffung

The thighs can rub on the inner sides, the tendency to sweat can lead to inflammation, or excess skin can disrupt the body image due to sagging skin. There are various surgical techniques for thigh lifts to correct this problem.

Lifting of the thighs (thigh lift)

A firm and smooth thigh is the wish of many patients. Especially on the inner thighs, the body's elasticity quickly diminishes and the skin wrinkles or hangs down. The same phenomenon also occurs above the kneecap, where the skin can contract into horizontal folds.

If larger fat deposits are present and the thigh is to be liposuctioned as a whole, sagging skin must be expected from a certain amount of liposuction, which may require tightening. In some cases, liposuction is therefore combined with a tightening procedure in order to achieve a satisfactory result.

For further information, please see the bottom of the page. This is where the advantages and disadvantages of the procedures are presented and the risks and side effects are explained. However, this cannot replace a personal consultation (also via video), in which these aspects are explained and adapted individually. We therefore look forward to a personal consultation with you!

Who is it for?
A thigh lift is suitable for all patients who have excess skin on their thighs. A thigh lift can also be the right choice in the case of major liposuction and the resulting excess skin. The overall weight reduction should be complete and the weight stable. Of course, stubborn fat deposits on the thighs can also be removed in the same session.
Details
As with upper arm lifts, thigh lifts are generally performed on the inside of the arms or legs. This is where the scar is least visible later on. The planning and indications are complicated and it takes solid experience as a surgeon to find the right balance here. On the one hand, too much skin must not be removed, as this would put tension on the scar and result in a wide scar. On the other hand, too little skin must not be removed so that excess skin is left behind. Finding the right balance here is an art that requires a great deal of experience in plastic surgery. In most cases, liposuction is planned alongside the tightening procedure. This increases the excess skin and can be effectively tightened in the same step. The operation itself is performed under general anaesthetic and takes around 3-5 hours. An overnight stay in the clinic is advisable, also because drains are used in many cases.
After the treatment
A period of rest is advisable after a thigh lift. Your mobility is restricted and walking long distances or climbing stairs can be problematic immediately after the operation. We recommend that our patients rest for about two weeks. After an overnight stay, you can be collected by a relative and taken home. There you can in principle look after yourself, get up regularly and slowly increase your range of movement. You will receive a compression suit from us, which you should wear consistently for six weeks. Scar care should begin after about three weeks. We are one of the few clinics in Germany to have our own scar care system, which we will explain to you during your follow-up visit.
Results & Risks
Like a tummy tuck or breast lift, a thigh lift is also a major challenge for the body. A large surface area and a long scar must heal without any problems. The body needs time for this. A healing phase of up to three months is not uncommon, and the result is often only visible after 6 to 12 months. Patience is therefore required if you want to undergo such an operation. Extreme movements and sporting activities are restricted for approx. 4-6 weeks. Compression garments must be worn for six weeks. Accompanying lymphatic drainage may be useful to stimulate lymph flow. Scar care usually extends over a period of around three months.
