Upper arm lift

Oberarmstraffung

The upper arms are a weak point in the ageing process. Due to the thinning of the skin and the loss of elasticity of the connective tissue, many women, but also men, tend to develop excess skin on the upper arms, which is also referred to as ‘Winkler’. There are both invasive and less invasive techniques to correct this condition.

Angular arms are a condition that is particularly troublesome for women in the second half of life. Whether sleeveless tops or T-shirts, the excess skin is always visible and the part of the skin that hangs down moves back and forth, especially when the arm is raised. This is where the term angular arm comes from.

It can be a combination of excess fatty tissue and excess skin, but in some cases only excess skin is responsible for the sagging of the upper arm. In this case, almost all non-surgical measures fail and an upper arm lift is the only alternative with a good result. Of course, this results in a scar, but it is located on the inside of the arm and is barely visible during normal movements.

For further information, please see the bottom of the page. This is where the advantages and disadvantages of the procedures are presented and the risks and side effects are explained. However, this cannot replace a personal consultation (also via video), in which these aspects are explained and adapted individually. We therefore look forward to a personal consultation with you!

Who is it for?

The upper arm lift (correction of angled arms) is possible for all patients who suffer from excess skin on the upper arm. Liposuction can also be performed on excess fatty tissue during the same session. In some cases, it is also necessary to smooth the surface of the skin. We will provide you with an individualised treatment proposal during our consultation.

Details

The lift should be planned in a standing position. The length of the scar is variable and depends on the findings on the one hand and the patient's wishes on the other. As a rule, the scar runs from the armpit to approx. 5 cm above the elbow. It is placed inwards so that the scar is normally not visible. The operation is performed under a short anaesthetic, during which the excess skin is removed and the inner layers of the upper arm are tightened. Occasionally, drains are required to drain wound fluid. The operation can be performed as an inpatient (one night) or you can leave our private clinic after the operation if you have a driver.

After the treatment

After the upper arm lift, you will receive a compression garment from us that you will have to wear for six weeks. An upper arm lift is therefore an operation that is more comfortable in the colder months than in the height of summer, as you may sweat more under the compression garment. After an upper arm lift, it is also necessary to refrain from swimming in chlorinated swimming pools or going to the solarium for some time. There is no real immobilisation - 1-2 weeks of a reduced programme are sufficient. After just one week, you will be able to resume your normal daily routine without strain.

Results & Risks

As with all body lifts, patience is also required for an upper arm lift. The scars are often very red and hard at first and only fade after a few months. The result is visible after three months at the earliest and continues to change afterwards. Competent and consistent scar care is important, and we will support you in this: We are one of the few clinics in Germany to have developed our own range of scar care products, which we will be happy to inform you about in our clinic.
