Making muscles visible

Muskeln sichtbar machen

Even if patients do a lot of sport, the muscles may not be very visible. It is particularly difficult to build up the muscles on the trunk in such a way that they are still visible through a small layer of fat on top. Modern plastic surgery procedures can help to make the muscles visible.

Visualising muscles by means of liposuction

The muscles of the abdomen and torso, but also the thighs and buttocks, can be well developed and yet little of them can be seen on the surface. This is often because a layer of fat under the skin hides the muscle contours. Of course, you can try to reduce this layer of fat through extreme dieting, but a high-calorie diet is usually necessary for good strength training. Reducing the fat layer and maintaining or building up the muscles at the same time is often not so easy with stubborn fat deposits. Modern procedures such as water-jet assisted liposuction can help to remove fatty tissue effectively and permanently. However, they do not result in the skin clinging to the muscles. There are special procedures for this, which are often summarised under the term High Definition Liposuction (HDL).

This refers to a combination of several techniques: Firstly, the excess fatty tissue is suctioned out, then the subcutaneous connective tissue and the skin itself are tightened in the same operation using another device so that the skin fits snugly against the muscles. As a result, the muscles become visible and stand out on the surface of the skin.

The technical procedures are usually very new and are not offered by all clinics. Naturally, the costs for such a technical solution are higher than for simple liposuction. However, the results are significantly better, especially in slim and athletic patients, so that such a tightening liposuction should always be considered.

For further information, please see the bottom of the page. This is where the advantages and disadvantages of the procedures are presented and the risks and side effects are explained. However, this cannot replace a personal consultation (also via video), in which these aspects are explained and adapted individually. We therefore look forward to a personal consultation with you!

Who is it for?

The procedure is particularly suitable for patients who want to visualise their muscles. This means that although trained muscles are present, they are concealed by a deep layer of fat. For very overweight patients or patients with large fat deposits, liposuction is usually the best option, but this can also be supplemented with a tightening procedure to emphasise the body contours.

Details

If muscles are to be visualised, planning is the most important thing before the operation. The regions to be treated must be analysed and measured and the surgical plan must be precisely drawn on the body surface. The operation itself is performed under a short anaesthetic and consists of two steps: In the first step, the excess fatty tissue is suctioned out (usually using a modern water-jet assisted system); in the second step, the skin and underlying tissue are then tightened so that the edges of the muscles, such as in the six-pack area, can be clearly worked out.

After the treatment

Treatment with state-of-the-art equipment is the prerequisite for a successful operation. However, aftercare is also important, and this is where the patient's help is needed: we provide them with a customised compression girdle that they have to wear around the clock for six weeks. They can of course be taken off for showers, but otherwise they must be worn at all times. During this time, it is particularly important to ensure a balanced approach, as you will of course only be able to engage in limited physical activity. Once the compression phase has ended, intensive strength and endurance training should be carried out to get the body back into shape.

Results & Risks

The results of an HDL take time, as many internal healing processes are necessary before the final result is visible. A period of 3 to 6 months must be allowed before the final results of the treatment become visible. Patience is therefore often required in aesthetic surgery.
