Lip augmentation: how do I get more lip volume?

For many decades, plastic surgery has been using artificially produced, body-compatible fillers such as hyaluronic acid to increase lip volume. Sterile, packaged in syringes, this filler is injected into the lips. Defect is immediately visible, because the volume of the lips is larger immediately after the treatment, more red lips can be seen and the heart shape of the lips can be modulated. The disadvantage of these fillers is that they are broken down by the body and the effect of lip augmentation lasts for about 4-7 months. However, the procedure of lip augmentation with fillers can be repeated at any time and theoretically an infinite number of times, but is of course associated with relevant costs.
An alternative is lip augmentation with autologous fat. Especially for this or in the context of liposuction. Some fatty tissue is removed at the same time as liposuction and injected into the lip. The injection technique is somewhat similar to the technique used for lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid. However, lip augmentation with autologous fat is often performed under a short anaesthetic, as liposuction is often performed at the same time. The great advantage of lip augmentation with autologous fat: although some of the autologous fat is broken down, some of it remains and gives the lip volume in the long term.

LIP AUGMENTATION WITH SILICONE IMPLANTS

The augmentation of the lip or both lips with a silicone implant has been a routine operation at the Rosengarten Clinic for many years. An implant from the USA was available to us for this purpose. The results were excellent and the implants were well tolerated. Due to an export ban, these implants are no longer available outside the USA. As we have a high demand for permanent lip augmentation at the Rosengarten Clinic, we developed our own alternative method to achieve this goal.

PERMANENT LIP AUGMENTATION WITH THE GURAL STRIP (DS) AND THE FASCIA STRIP

Thanks to the many years of experience that our specialists have in the field of facial surgery, we have been able to develop a surgical technique that enables a solid and permanent augmentation of the lips. Instead of using a foreign body, we use our own stable body material to enlarge the lips. We extract a small part of an unneeded muscle fibre from an inconspicuous area and shape it according to the desired lip volume. Alternatively, we use a small part of the Ermes (dermis). In both cases, the transplant is shaped by our specialist after removal so that it adds the desired volume to the lip. Via two small openings. On the inside of the lip, the graft is pulled into the lip with a special instrument and fixed there. After a phase of ablation, the added volume remains and gives the lip a sensual shape and increased volume.

As you can see, there are various ways to increase lip volume and give the upper and lower lip a sensual shape. There are temporary augmentations that are broken down by the body and permanent solutions for lip augmentation, and all procedures have their own advantages.
